Ym-Fab Nylate was one of the first disinfectants to be registered by the APVMA for use as a post harvest treatment on fruit and vegetables.

How does Ym-Fab Nylate work?

The chemistry of Nylate is really bromine chemistry despite the presence of chlorine. When Nylate reacts with water we have two active�s present:- (Hypochlorous acid) HOCl + HOBr (Hypobromous acid)
The breakdown products of Nylate are the chloride and bromide ions or salt as:- Cl¯ or Br¯.
The bromide ion is reactivated by the chlorine in another dose of Nylate to form more Hypobromous acid HOBr
. Br¯ + HOCl -> HOBr + Cl¯

Optimum pH levels for Ym-Fab Nylate:-

Ym-Fab Nylate works best in pH range of 7.0 � 8.5.

Fungicides and Ym-Fab Nylate:-

In order to ensure your produce is protected we advise that a fungicide should be applied when the Nylate residual is 0.5 � 1.0 mg/Ltr. If you apply the fungicide when there is zero Nylate residual you run the risk of contamination from spores floating in the air in your pack house. If you apply Nylate above 1.0 mg/Ltr fungicide activity may be compromised. Never mix fungicide and Nylate together in the same tank.

Guidelines for using redox Control Systems and High Rate Sand Filters:

Redox control measures the amount of Nylate present in the water. If the Nylate level is low the unit will release Nylate to reach the set point.

Redox Control is recommended for:

  • Large sheds where redox control minimizes the waste of Nylate.
  • Export sheds to avoid taint and breakdown. It is also a QA requirement.
  • Refrigerated water systems to ensure good kill of pathogens is achieved at low temperatures.

High Rate Sand Filtration is recommended for:

  • Large sheds to save water.
  • Hot or cold water systems to save energy.
  • Flotation aided tanks to conserve chemical use.
  • High rate sand filters will filter down to 10 micron.
